Loud, outgoing, and attention loving are words that all describe most Blue & Gold Macaw Parrots. With bright colors that look as if an artist came along and added highlights here and there, the Blue and Gold is a big bird with a big heart and a brain to match. These birds crave mental stimulation and interaction with favorite humans regularly, and can make loyal, loving lifetime companions if treated properly. Sadly, Macaws are also among the most common "rescue" birds that end up being passed from home to home after the first well meaning but unprepared human realizes that they take a tremendous amount of work and devotion to keep happy and healthy. In the right environment, a Blue & Gold can enjoy being a Macaw and have lots of fun things to do all day, as well as get lots of interaction from people he loves.
Our own B/G, Sparky, is the Macaw seen in Lafeber Bird Food ads in BIRD TALK and other publications, as well as on the package for Nutri-Nuts bird treats! These are great birds, but you must commit yourself to the well being of your bird in every way before the relationship between you can grow deeper.
