Hailing from the South Seas region, Eclectus Parrots remain unique among parrot species with several unusual characteristics that are hard to miss. The first and most obvious is that they are sexually dimorphic, meaning that the male and female are of different colors. In Eclectus, the male is a bright green and the female is a deep red with purple accents. The other unusual thing is their feathers, which are totally unlike any other parrots. The feather "hairs" on an Eclectus Parrot feel and look very different from usual feathers.
These birds remind me in many ways of an African Grey in some of their behaviors. They can become excellent talkers with training, and they have that sort of "classy" air about them like Greys do.
This pair of young Eclectus Parrots really visibly highlights differences between a male Eclectus Parrot and a female Eclectus Parrot, even as young birds with "baby beak"....
